Thinking about goals for 2014
As I sit here at my brother's house on vacation, I am thinking about the successes and the setbacks from 2013. I am trying to figure out how I can stick to my goals in 2014 and not get off track. I am thinking about the areas where I have found success and the areas where I find weakness. It occured to me that I have to focus on fixing my weak areas. I am not ready to post about what worked and what didn't yet, but I am sure that there are some changes that WILL be made. That post will be done in the next couple of days.
It seems to me that if I focus on making small changes, I will see big differences. There is no magic pill. I have to WANT it and DO it! It's really easy to want it and sit on my butt and dream about it. I have good days and bad days, and the important thing is that the number of good days out-number the bad. There is no excuse for it being the other way around. No matter what goes wrong in life, there is no excuse for self sabotage.

My best advice is to be specific in writing your goals and set monthly goals to focus on. For example, don't set a goal to walk 500 miles in 2014. Set a goal to walk 3 miles, 4x a week in the month of January. Then revaluate February for a new goal. Small goals for shorter time periods don't seem as overwhelming. Whatever your goals are, I'll be cheering you on!
ReplyDeleteThose are great ideas! Thank you. I definitely agree that short and attainable goals are the way to go!
DeleteSo many goals I have for 2014! First is being the Best Version of ME!! I will be turning 50!! Yes the Big 5-0 WOW where did my first 40 years go to!! There are many races I want to run and one is The Empire State Building Run UP!! I want a redo, yes a REDO. I was invited in 2012 to run and raise money for cancer research for MMRF. This is the cancer my father had and lost his battle with. I reached my goal of over $2500. Cant say the same about reaching the top of 1576 steps 86 Flights to the top to see that awesome view of NYC!
ReplyDeleteApplications open up on Dec 30th. I cant wait to apply!!
Dream BIG 2014
Kris
That is awesome Kris. I would love to do that too. I just wouldn't be able to take the time off. I am sure that you will kick butt on it too. I can't wait to hear that you get it!!!
DeleteI use the SMART method when coming up with my goals!
ReplyDeleteSpecific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Timely
And while I didn't hit all my goals for 2013, I achieved a lot of them, and had a great year overall! Onward and upward to 2014!
That is awesome Jenny! I didn't get all of mine either. And I accomplished some things that I didn't even know I wanted... Best of luck for 2014!
DeleteI am going to simplify my life one task at a time...it may not be much...but I have to start somewhere! I need to get rid of what doesn't matter and keep what does!
ReplyDeleteGreat plan Miss Molly! I love it!
DeleteI don't know how except to take small bites. My 14 in 14 should be a great challenge to keep me going
ReplyDeleteI will check it out Betsy. Sounds pretty great!
DeleteLove this Mindy & all your IG posts! For me after all the years of driving myself crazy, I understand that I have certain goals in mind. I work toward them.. but when life changes or circumstances change, I change with them rather than get all crazy about not meeting this or that. I know some people live by meeting them but that has been my downfall in the past - getting down on myself when I need to change with life.. just me & I understand it does not work for others...
ReplyDeleteI love your posts too... I finally subscribed to your blog. I don't usually do that because I hate extra email, but yours is one I need to read as often as possible! Love you girl!
DeleteI need to find a way to get my but in gear. I think smaller resolutions, instead of big huge year long goal will be key for me.
ReplyDeletefor me it is the SMART goals but also the COMMITTING to them.
ReplyDeleteself-deception doesnt have a place in goal setting--just realism.
LOFTY REALISM but getting real none the less.
