‘S WONDERFUL
The New Gershwin Musical
I had the opportunity to spend another "wonderful" night at the David A. Straz, JR. Center for the Performing Arts this week. I was able to spend an enjoyable evening out with my mom watching ‘S WONDERFUL, a new musical celebrating the music of George and Ira Gershwin. We sat at a small table in the Jaeb Theatre and snacked on popcorn and sprite. Popcorn, good music, dancing, and good company… what else could I ask for?
The show was five mini-musicals that took place in different cities. I was not familiar with most of the songs but I did catch my mom singing along a few times. My favorite number was a rendition of “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess sung by Tia Jemison. She has a very powerful voice and presence on stage. Other songs that I was familiar with were I Got Rhythm, I’ve Got A Crush On You, Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off, and Someone To Watch Over Me.
Those Gershwin brothers were very talented! It runs until April 28.
disclosure: I was given complimentary tickets to 'S Wonderful. All opinions are my own.
I got my undergrad degree at Marquette and the B-School building is named after David Straz--I wonder if it's any relation?!
